In your main SpeedFan window, go into "Configure" and check what name is next to Temp1. If it's something beginning with "Winbond" then I believe that is a chip which SpeedFan monitors on your motherboard. If it is something like "HD0" then that is your Master Drive (HD1 being your slave drive assuming you have one).

In the Configure options under the Temperature tab, you can change the default settings to your desired temperature for that specific location in your hardware. The flame is warning you that the current temperature of your machine from that location is higher than the prefered temperature you have set in your config. Say for example the desired temperature for Temp1 is 40 degrees, and the warning temperature is 50 degrees, the flame would appear if the actual temperature rose above 50 degrees. You may see a red arrow pointing upwards sometimes too, that indicates that the temperature is reaching the warning signal.

The idea is that you configure the temps to whatever you want, and thus change the fan speeds as you wish in concordance with the different temperature settings. Hope this has helped a little,

Graham
