Default vista - nero issues

I have got the beta 2 evaluation copy of windows vista. I tried to install nero 7 on it and it wouldnt work. Now I am having serious problems uninstalling it. I have tried the usual way, through add and remove progs, but no joy, it gets stuck about 3 quarters of the way through. I have advanced uninstaller pro, but this crashes on vista. I have downloaded a couple more programs to try to do a forced removal of nero but none of them work. Most of them say it is in the middle of being installed and it cannot continue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is doing my head in! does anyone know of any forced removal programs that will work properly on vista? Or just how to uninstall a copy of nero 7 that didnt install properly! many thanks in advance

Hey Smokeycheech,

OK, caveat, I have zero experience with Vista, I stay away from Microsoft beta's until they have been seriously released, and then I wait for the patches to slow down.

That being said, I would suggest that this is a registry glitch. You have a couple of options. If you feel comfortable searching in your registry I can give you instructions that worked in 98, ME, and XP.

If you are uncomfortable, you can try using RegSupremePro from my signature. I am not sure if they are geared up yet to address any differences in Vista.

You could do a search for Nero on your PC to see if there are any traces of the install still showing that you could manually delete. But that may not resolve the problem if installer still has Nero locked in.

You could try a different uninstaller, Spybot S&D has worked for me in the past when Windows wouldn't.

It appears that there are some uninstall issues with Vista, you may want to emply Microsofts experts with this issue as well. This assistance is for OneCare uninstall help, but they may have information about general uninstall issues as well. https://beta.windowsonecare.com/supp...alsupport.aspx

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Maybe this helps to get it uninstalled:

Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 and return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
Click ?Start,? and then click ?Control Panel.?
Click ?Add or Remove Programs.?
Scroll down to "Windows Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3", select it, and then click "Change/Remove". If you cannot find any Internet Explorer 7 entry in "Add or Remove Programs", run
%windir%\ie7beta3\spuninst\spuninst.exe. (To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.)

Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, Beta 2 Preview, or Beta 1
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, Beta 2 Preview, or Beta 1 and return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
  • Click "Start", and then click "Control Panel"
  • Click "Add or Remove Programs"
  • Scroll down to "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2" or "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview", select it, and then click "Change/Remove".
  • If not found, check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box, scroll down the list to "Windows XP - Software Updates", select "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview" or "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1" and then click "Change/Remove".
If you cannot find any Internet Explorer 7 entry in "Add or Remove Programs", try running these commands. Each is for a different release of Internet Explorer 7 so only one will succeed.
  • %windir%\$NtUninstallie7beta1$\spuninst\spuninst.e xe. (To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.)
  • %windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.e xe. (To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.)
  • %windir%\$NtUninstallie7b2pmx$\spuninst\spuninst.e xe. (To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.)
  • %windir%\$NtUninstallie7beta2$\spuninst\spuninst.e xe. (To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.)
Hangs During Uninstall--If the uninstall process hangs while removing Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, delete any custom sound schemes created after installing the Internet Explorer 7 Beta and retry the uninstall.
