The American cousin of the T610. This feature-rich GSM phone packs a large display, camera, and Bluetooth into a sleek, compact design. Other key features include Java, Mophun games, GPRS, infrared, MMS, voice dialing, and voice memo.
It took some poking around but i think you are correct Marketings way of keeping track of who's who I guess
all the reviews I found speak of the 610

I think the 616 might have a better refresh rate & more pixels but dont quote me there LOL

Me again. . .
I just figured out what locked means

& that is NOT that the key pad is locked:o

Its seem that it will cost me about $25 to get it unlocked.

my Question is can I sell it to someone who is going to use it on the Cingular net work or does it have to be unlocked ?

Nothing is ever simple is it?

Yes Slowride locked means that you're cellphone is sim-locked so that it can only be used using a SIM-card that is from the same network, for example Vodafone.

So it will work for someone else how's using the same network.
You may also consider to buy a SIM-Card only, put that in the phone, and sell it that way.
For prepaid this is easy working.

Yes, you're right. Some phones can be unlocked for free by entering in a code, but the t616 has to be unlocked by a special cable and software. Rather then doing this yourself you can take it to the dealer and they'll do it for you (which is where, I'm assuming, they're charging the fee you mentioned).

The buyer can to use their own Cingular account, or unlock the phone themselves. You'll probably have a harder time finding a buyer for a locked phone.

I've been doing some shopping for phones on eBay myself recently, and the fact that the phone companies rip you off with thier "locked" phones is pretty annoying.

Well lets say I might not be able to take them to the dealer due to end or service with them.
a blank sim card will make it OK? or just for the cingular network?

What would happen to them & I if I sold it with the one that is in it?

GEEZ i thought it was just a phone not s Sony conspiracy

Do you know why cingular has the best "NO drop calls" status?

You cant drop a call if you cant place it!

I will search for sim cards & check how much$$ & I might call a local used phone dealer .

I found this forum that is all about cell phones http://www.cellphonehacks.com
That is how I found a link to a company that you send it to & they unlock it & send it back.

{like I would not get ripped off}

Thank you soooo much everyone !!

Being locked means you can only add cingular sim cards too it.

If you can't take it back to the orginal dealer to have it unlocked, almost any cell phone store can do it for you.

If you sold the phone with the card in it, the new owner would have to either use a cingular service plan, or get it unlocked and add another network's card to the phone.
