Default Energy Drinks Bogus Or Not

Ok I am a middle aged man losing some of the energetic youth I used to have (OK OK alot of it) and I get tired of coffee. So I started trying these energy drinks. Well The first time I tried them it worked. The rest of the times I have tried everyone I can find have done nothing. So it brings me to the conclusion that these energy drinks are using the Placebo effect.? If you think it gives you energy it will. I mean there mostly caffeine anyway, with most of the other stuff I can get from a pediasure etc.. So do you think that is how they work? Mind over Commercially.

In my mind it is a bit of both, they are basically loaded with sugar and caffeine so will give you a bit of a rush.

And obviously your mind is going to play tricks on you because it is promising you 'extra energy'.

Well, here's an interesting paper on the "active" ingredient (Taurine) in one of the Worlds most popular energy drinks...Red Bull.

Conclusion
The Red Bull Company claims that drinking Red Bull improves one’s cognitive
capabilities and muscular performance (1). The company attributes these enhancements
to the unique combination of the ingredients including key components such as caffeine,
taurine and glucuronolactone. However, it seems more plausible that most of the effects
observed when drinking Red Bull come principally from caffeine. Red bull contains
about the same amount of caffeine (80 mg) as a cup of coffee. However, because coffee
takes time to cool, it is ingested over a longer period of time than it takes to consume Red
Bull. Drinking Red Bull brings into the body a large dose of caffeine in a short amount
of time, resulting in a sharp rise of plasma caffeine concentration. In addition, a
psychosomatic placebo effect of having consumed an “energy drink” may compound the
chemical’s actual effects. Thus it seems that drinking a cold cup of coffee may induce
the same “energizing and refreshing” effects of drinking Red Bull – and best of all, at
one-third the cost.

When i drink one it seems as if i get the energy i'm looking for for about 10-15 minutes then i'm ever more tired than when i had it.

thanks for the white paper Hengis. I was just wondering. As Taurine can be found in many baby drinks. But I have to disagree at the 1 third the cost thing. As In Chicago it's 2.50 us for one can.

And drinking cold cofee... Thats just wrong lol.

Yeah, I'd rather pay slightly more for reb bull then drink cold coffee, lol. I don't drink energy drinks very often though.
