Default installing webcam in Linux

Hi,

With Windows, my webcam, altho it came with a driver disk, only needed plugging in to the usb to work. That isn't the case with Ubuntu. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get it working(& any other plug & play type device)?

hello loosie... did you try this...
troubleshooting
If the BIOS setting "OS Installation" is set to [Begin], then the webcam may not function (this tested under Hardy 8.04 LTS). Change this setting to "Finished" and the webcam will function. Also ensure that the webcam itself is enabled in the BIOS. good luck... L

Hello loosie, Welcome back!!

BIOS stands for basic input/output system. In simple words, it initiates your system devices and prepares your computer for execution of software. For detailed information, you can obviously google it.

In most computers, pressing f2 while booting will open bios setup. It should work for you as well.
