Apparently your ibm has a little low ram for ubuntu. It takes around 512mb for livecd and 256mb for xdesktop (GUI). To use command line, 64 mb is enough for ubuntu.

iv got ubuntu xdesktop running on a pentium 2 333mhz, but it had 319mb of ram.

Hello Apemax!

Did Agony's post provide the answer you needed or should I leave this OPEN yet for a tech?
