lol. Its a free open source operating system. (it is written by normal people who know how to program) It is useful for some things.. But using it is too DOS-like for my taste, installing stuff is annoying. Im done with linux lol, im sure upgrader or someone else could tell you more about it. I wouldn't recommend it for the average user.

Linux is an exceptionally well written and well documented OS that will run on multiple hardware selections. Power PC, 64 bit whatevers, x86 whatevers (this is what most PCs are). It was originally written by Linus Torvalds as a project to convert minix (another neat toy) into a fully operational and free OS that the average user could learn with just a bit of studying. If you already know any flavor of Unix (AIX, HP, True64, Solaris, BSD,...) Linux will be a piece of cake to learn. If you don't, and you are really interested, take a Linux intro class at your local college. Or just buy a book and start reading. A good text is "Linux+ A Guide to Certification" by Deitel & Deitel from Pearson Publishing. Not cheap but an excellent learner's tool.

ciao,

rexb
