Exclamation Linux on external HDD

Would it be possible to install Linux onto an External HDD so that I can keep my current PC Windows only (for now at least)?
Next question is, How easy would it be to do, and would I then be able to use a full Distro as a Live CD?

Hi
If you plug your ecternal HDD in at boot and boot from live CD when you click install when you get to the partition manager click use entire disk and click the external HDD so its check box has the little circle in it and click continue and it will install.

When you say use distro as a live CD do you mean download and save programs and files but use it on the CD if this is what you mean ti dont think you can.

Hope this helps.

That's what I'm wanting to do Apple_head15.
I suppose the next question will be 'As I'm new to the whole linux thing, which linux Distro would be best and simplest to use in this way?

Hi
If your new i would use Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron as its easy to use a beginners Linux.
Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu Download froim its website or order free CD's.

Ubuntu comes with Sun Microsystems OpenOffice
Firefox Web Browser
a Terminal
and other usefull software for evryday use.

Dont worry about Drivers as they will get installed off CD as linux will take nearly all drivers.
