Default CS:S on Linux

I got it to work with WINE (but the graphics were too messed up to play). Then I install the right video card driver, and it stops working. Now I have no clue how I got it to work in the first place...

I really want to get this to work without having to pirate anything (cedega, crossover, VMWare, ect)

I found this
T42buntu: Counter-Strike: Source Ubuntu Linux WINE
and he uses the same video card driver (fglrx), and I tried his directions on the same version of Ubuntu (6.10)

I can get steam working but when I goto the games tab and try to install CSS WINE closes.
