Hi mate, please keep your language appropriate for a family site... Now that's out the way:

Installing Ubuntu on the same computer should be fine, it's very common to dual boot. You will need to partition your hard drive into three partitions, the NTFS partition for windows xp, the ext3/reiser/whatever filesystem you choose to use for linux and the swap partition for linux.

May I suggest reading this: Ubuntu Wiki: Dual booting.

Hope this helps

Sure you can, just select that drive during the installation.

thats what i did the last time and then i couldn't boot whit xp no more

if you want more information a message showed on the screen when i tried to boot xp and said something ( it was maybe a year ago so i don't remember it so well) like: "you can't boot becaus x is missing". The x thing was something ubuntu needed to boot, wich is strange because i tried to boot xp.

Hi!

X is the graphics... (like Windows used to be to DOS). If it is an old computer you might try with the ALTERNATIVE version of UBUNUTU, see Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu. That version doesn't contain the LIVE CD, so I suggest you download both versions, and try the LIVE CD first.

The same thing have happend to me a couple during the last decade (Red Hat 5-7 and Ubuntu 5.05 - 7.04)... I had to adjust the settings for the graphic card and then it worked fine. Try again and then use GOOGLE to find the solution for error you get.

You have a lot of help in the UBUNTU forums (also in Swedish at Ubuntu Sverige | Ubuntu Sverige). Visit the INSTALLATION and NEWBIE groups.

Good luck

/ Kim
