ok i have installed xp on my master hard drive then i disconnected that drive and installed ubuntu on another drive. now there both in the computer with the xp as the master and ubuntu as the slave. i had it like this about a week ago and i lost all my stuff on xp. it messed with the mbr. what i would like to do is change the windows boot.ini file to include ubuntu. i'm just not totally sure on what to type to make it work. what to link it too.


this is what i got for my boot.ini
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windo ws XP Media Center Edition" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\????????="Nicks Ubuntu"

what is supposed to go there. i tried Linux and Ubuntu.

Hey Nick, try making your boot.ini file read:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windo ws XP Media Center Edition" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)/boot="Nicks Ubuntu"

Please note the change of "\" to "/" before "boot" in the Linux line.
