Default [Resolved] Getting Linux to work

Ok...
Whenever I run Linux it freezes. Today I tried Kubuntu and it froze. Then I restarted and selected "start in safe graphics mode" and it ran fine for the whole time I was using it. I'm now almost sure the freezing has something to do with my graphics.

So if I install Linux how do I stop it from freezing?

Hi, is your graphics card compatible with the Linux OS you have? You might want to check with the distributor's site for a compatibility list. Because Linux is free (usually) it cannot support all of the hardware ever made.

Thanks,
Adam

First check the manufacturers website, both ati and nvidia have linux drivers so try downloading the approprate drivers for your card and see if it improves

EDIT: didnt realise that u had your sys specs up, go here for your driver : Nvidia Drivers Just follow the steps

It sounds like the nv driver (the default driver for nvidia cards that comes with X) is some kind of borked...I think your best option is to install the full nvidia driver either from packages in your distro or from the package on the nvidia site and then change the line for driver in your xorg.conf from nv to nvidia, reboot and you should be fine.

Something that hasn't been asked yet -- What distribution are you running?

I do believe he said in his original post that he's using Kubuntu.

OK, very sorry, missed that...

The Ubuntu wiki has a guide for installing the Nvidia drivers... It can be rather a pain sometimes because Ubuntu doesn't take nicely to closed-source software. Try these instructions and see if that helps.
