[Answered] Ubuntu Linux
Im working on installing linux on a blank hdd. nothing no partitons at all. I have burned the ubuntu linix iso to a cdrom and Ive tried installing it. I get a blue line, seems like it could be a error? then a green line underneath it. It locks up and stops moving near the end of the install loading bar. I dont have a floppy drive neither. How can I get linux to install right? Its kind of angering me. Never dealt with linux. Thanks.

Which iso file did you download, and what version? Did you download the install version, or the live cd? When you put the cd in the drive, and open it in My Computer, do you see 1 large file, or multiple files? If you just see 1 large file, it wasnt burned properly as an iso image. When you boot the cd, do you get any boot prompt, install options, splash screen or text at all? If not, it could be a corrupt download, it may not be burned properly, you may have burn errors from the burn speed being too high. You can try downloading from another mirror, and burn at the slowest speed you can to help eliminate read/write errors.

Ok Well I could try to download another ISO from there site, I downloaded ubuntu-6.10-desktop-i386.iso and I burned it with PowerISO aswell. When I burned it onto this computer, yes the loader screen came up and I could download files and install them like Gaim and such. When I boot the disk on my computer I see the regular screen you'd see if you would do it yourself, I have the start or install option and so on. I did the check disk for defects but it got to the end, didnt say any error, I pressed enter and it went back to the menu or something maybe restarted PC. but I burned it at 4x last time, It might be from the mirror, could be a bad copy of it or something. I'll try downloading it again from another mirror and burn it to a CD. If you have anymore to add for me to try please do. Also Im installing this to a BLANK fully erased nothing on it hard drive. So if that could be a reason it might. I dont think it would since it has EFDisk or what not to create portions.

Installing to a blank hd is no problem, just make sure the jumpers are set to master. Choose the guided partitioing option, and the installer will do it all for you. Memory seems to be an issue with 6.1 , they reccomend at least 192mb. Alot of people are having installation problems. I had the 6.1 disk, and never installed it because i had 5.1 installed and i liked it. I just installed 6.1 on an old drive, on an older machine(366mhz, 256mb), and it installed ok, but this was a purchased cd. Im on dialup, it would take me a week to download 700mb. LOL A very large percentage of the time, installation problems are from bad downloads or burn errors.

Well that computer Im trying to get Linux onto for now is my gaming computer. Yea I know you can't play games with Linux, I might put Windows on with it later or try out the Linux game stuff. It shouldnt be a problem with memory. I have a gig stick of ram and two 256mb's in it. But Im not sure what you mean by ->
Code:
just make sure the jumpers are set to master. Choose the guided partitioing option, and the installer will do it all for you.
Im not sure how to do that at all.
