Hi itszztom, welcome to the forum. First of all , don't think of it as a noob question, we all have things that we don't understand or can't find.

With regards to your problem. You can download free linux operating systems at www.linuxiso.org . You will need to have CD burning software to burn the ISO into a bootable CD. Next follow the instructions to install the linux.

Matt

You just insert the CD and reboot the computer. BIOS should recognize the bootable CD and the installation screen will appear.

Also, Slackware (which this distribution is based on) is not a very good distrobution IMHO, I have heard that Gentoo (also free) is very good.

I'd use Ubuntu, and what you need to do is burn that file to a CD, not using Windows burner, but using Nero or something to burn it, because a ISO file is like a "zip" of all the data on the CD, except it's not compressed.

http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm
Guides on how to burn ISOs using different burners, even a link to a free one in case you don't have Nero.
