hello 2beor02b

re changing batteries more often i assume the wireless keyboard and mouse would "connect" via a usb reciever hub , to save on batteries get an extended usb cable to go from your tower to the desk ,

re: getting a smaller tower this would again bring overheating issues as the smaller the area that the heat has to dissipate and move or be moved will generate heat retention as opposed to a larger tower the air can move around and be moved more freely ,(big radiator in a big room,it gets warm : big radiator in a small room : it gets a lot hotter quicker)

re : hdd size if its just the op system and exe's on the internal then you wouldnt need a great hdd , but if the 1.5 tb external was to be left in an "on"state 24/7 and always accessible i again would have reservations on temperature stabillity (i personally would have an internal drive so the system can cool it and manage temperatures by fan control

OK, I think that, with your help, I'm there now.

With the rigorous use I'm going to give this system then it's got to be a tower, I'll just have to adapt my space to suit. Seen a built unit on eBay that seems to have what I want and the Company selling it will tweak it to raise the spec where necessary.

So :-

400w Black case with space for two extra fans
10.4 Ghz Quad Core CPU (4 x 2.6 Ghz Amd Athlon II 620 AM3)
1.0 Tb Internal HDD
4 GB Ram
Windows XP Professional
Hardware Monitor with CPU and Chassis Temp Sensor
CPU and Chassis Fan Tachometers

There is also, apparently a remote boot from HDD standby power down. If it actually does this then I shall be as happy as a man with two things I can't mention.

with a 27" Monitor and a 1.5 Tb Seagate it's going to be a bit of a monster. I'll let you know when I'll be powering it up for the first time so you can hang your head out the window and listen

Think you can draw a line under this one now and call it closed.

Thanks again to you and Sir Trews for your help.

hello geoff

that sounds a good system although the gfx card isnt mentioned, should you get a reasonable quality one i personally would think about a larger psu especialy if you require extra fans at some point

glad we were able to help you out here at pchf and we look forward to seeing you around the forum again soon .
