Default over heating

My Compaq Presario CQ70 laptop is over heating. I know the fans have stopped working. Is this something that I can fix on my own or would it be safer to let someone else who knows laptops do it themselves? If it's easy I could do it.

It's generally pretty easy to replace internal fans on a laptop. Just remember that if you replace the cpu fan that you have to clean and reapply thermal paste to the cpu. Make sure you follow all of the instructions that come with thermal paste.

Here's the service manual for it. - http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01573159.pdf

Some screws may be a little hidden, so don't force anything apart or you may end up breaking things.

Thanks to both of you for your help. I had a friend that was much more computer savy than I was and he opened it up to clean it out. The fans had enough cat hair on it to take DNA and start another cat. He advised that I either get a hairless cat or just have the fan cleaned out from time to time.
