Hi - Welcome to PCHF - the talented team will endeavour to help.....
First are you sure it's not the mouse that isn't working? All of the following can be done using just the keyboard Next try refreshing the USB ports by, (assuming XP) going to the Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, there you will see at the bottom USB System Controllers expand the list (by entering on the + sign.) Delete/Uninstall each item. Reboot The PC will refresh its "knowledge" of the USB ports. If no luck Go: Start - Run - (type) sfc /scannow (with the space)(Enter) sfc = System File Checker restores files to their correct state. This may require you to put in your XP CD. For futher, detailed, information on this procedure please click here: scannow sfc - LEARN how to use SFC.EXE (system file checker)

to elpmek:
i'm absolutely sure that those usb ports are completely dead. they were repaired a couple of times. now i stopped bothering, waste of money. laptop is very old and rusty it would take an hour to list all the parts that are dying ![]() to fixit: no green ones, sadly. i thought there was a miraculous way to connect the mouse through printer or video card ports, as i've seen some photos with interesting adapter variations :/ |
