Default Battery and Cord dead as a doornail?

I own a Compaq Presario v5000 and just recently my cord got bent in an unusual way and from then on could only be used if it was bent back. I was fine with it cause it was still working so long as I kept it straight and layed out but then one day when I went to turn on my laptop, I layed the cord out like I normally do, turned on my computer and almost instantly when it was fully charged the day before it told me I had "0%" battery charge and proceeded to shut down. I plugged the cord in again, waited for the light to charge it to come on and it did not. Tried to turn on my computer again so I could my relatives charger that works just as well and my lights lit up, blinked and then it faded. It did this four more times and now won't light up at all. I automatically assumed my battery had died...is this really what had happened or is it something else? What can I do to solve the problem?

Welcome to the Forum Compaqfan!

What you describe is a laptop charger, yes?

Really and truly, having to line up the cord to get things going means one thing.

Replace the cord. You battery is just fine. If it's older, replacing it might be an option you want to look at, but this is a cabling issue.

I hope this helps some

There's just one problem with that. As I stated my relative's computer charger is compatible and it won't work with that either.

Take the battery out and try just using the power cord, and see if it will come on normally!
