Okay, guys, here's the problem. I have an Inspiron 1520 Dell Laptop. Now, after about a year, both the battery and the charger died. I've been told this is average for Dell laptop gear. So, I purchased a new battery and charger. This charger is different and has a small orange adaptor. Stats on the sticker as follows;
Model: FY1904750
Input: 100-240VAC 50/60Hz 2.5A
Output: 19VDC 4.75A

Anyway, I've had this charger for a month and it's worked great but all of a sudden it's stopped charging my battery. It stops it losing power, but it does not regain any.
Please help, this is desperately urgent as I use this laptop for every single one of my classes in school, every day. I can't really do without it

A similar thing happened to my laptop. When i phoned support the suggested somthing to do with static building up around the battery or somthing.

I was told to remove the battery pack and leave it out for 10 minutes. Then put back in the battery and plug in charger. It worked for me. So you should give it a go

That sounds like it could help I actually changed to my old battery which still charges but has a severely shortened lifetime, but it still doesnt charge, but if it's something like a static buildup it's probably in the area the battery plugs into, isn't it? Thanks a lot, I'll do that now and be back later with results.

Well, that didn't work. I get a message saying 'The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation.'
However, I've gotten that message the entire time I've owned this laptop, with both chargers. I'm really worried about this now

That's where I got it from...It was only about a month ago or so but the receipt etc is gone so I can't claim warranty or anything...

Here in the states,when you use plastic to buy things with,they can use that to verify your data if you don't have a receipt,if you all do that there,just a thought! Also if they really tried they could pick up some info from your device serial number and model number.
