I'm having a problem with my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. It will shut off randomly and sometimes won't turn on at all. It doesn't seem to be overheating. The CPU temp stays around 70 to 75 degrees Celsius. I used Passmark Burn-In test two times without any problem. Sometimes it will last a minute and sometimes it stays on for a few hours. I tried running it with just the battery and just the AC adapter but no luck. Any ideas?

Hi -
Still sounds like overheating. For instance if you are using it rested on a carpet or bedclothes the air circulation will not work! Then move it to a desk & it will work. Please confirm how you are using it. Thanks

Since I'm almost positive it's not overheating, it must be the motherboard.
It's not a big deal. I bought it AS IS on eBay. Guess it's going back on eBay. |

The only thing wront with it is that the heatsink is clogged. There's too much dust between the fan and the heatsink, not allowing air flow for CPU cooling. ITS SUPER SIMPLE to fix if you have a small screwdriver. I found this nice instructional:

I find laptops usaly run around 50 c in older laptops as a max temp.Over 50 c then there is an issue with over heating.
