To access the BIOS, press <Delete> or F2 key after the computer has run through its POST (on startup) - when in the BIOS, look for on-board peripherls/devices and then look for LAN/Network/Ethernet etc...and enable it.

Similarly, in Windows, right click on My Computer > properties > hardware tab > Device Manager > do you see any yellow exclamation marks? What is listed under Network Adapters?

no yellow marks and the following is listed:Atheros AR5005G wireless network adapter:VIA rhine II fast ethernet adapter.
