Default Keyboard Troubles

Hello All, the keyboard on my Dell Inspirion 2650 Laptop recently started giving me some trouble, as in, some of the keys were sticking, I can see it cause I can see the letters racing across the screen. Things got worse and some stopped working altogether. I decided to buy an external keyboard and stick it into the ps2 port available and use this keyboard for typing. The thing is I want to disable the keyboard on the laptop all together cause in some instances the laptop is picking up key presses and it is totally impossible to do work. I tried unistalling the driver but on re-boot it just picks back up the internal keyboard and installs the driver for that. What can I do to totally disable my internal keyboard and have my laptop read only from the external one.

Hi To-nee-t,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful staff of techs with a wide variety of skills, and I am sure that we will be able to help you resolve this problem.

First of all, it sounds as though your keyboard needs to be cleaned. The fact that some of the keys are sticking sounds more mechanical than software related to me. I would highly suggest removing the keys, using q-tips and isopropyl alcohol to clean under the keys and the keys themselves.

In order to disable your keyboard, you will need to go into your Device Manager locate the two keyboards listed and under properties for the main keyboard, click on disable in this profile.

Hope that helps,

TTFN
