Okay, this is Sooooo Belated . . . .!!!!
Hey All!
Just a little about me--I'm a 57 year old mom, writer, wife, who loves her computer as much as she does her kids, husband, and the furrier members of the family--two Rat terriers and a couple of kitties.
As you can see from my join date, I'm not exactly a new member. My boys and I have been enjoying the PC world since the ninties, when they, although in grade school, knew more about computers than I did. Got my first PC included with a course in fiction writing in '93, and I've never looked at another typewriter again. Such freedome to create!
Yeah, but, that machine didn't even have a hard drive then! I did all my work on floppies.
Back then, mine was the only PC in the house, so I was constantly chasing them off so I could get on with my stories. Kids being kids, they often played with settings they oughtn't, and off would go my PC to my PC Guru. My PC seemed, some months, to be in the repair shop more than on my desk! Finally, my longsuffering guru declared to everyone who happened to be present in his store that day, that he could probably pay his bills if I were his only client! Sadly, he passed away in 1999, just after we bought the boys their own PC and got a new one for me, as well. His assistant took us on until 2005, when he moved to a new location unbeknowst to us. Both he and we were between new phone numbers, so for quite sometime we weren't able to connect as the directory hadn't resolved our new numbers into the system.
Naturally, both computers developed problems . . .
Searching the net, my oldest son found PCHelpForum. By the time we located our guru, we'd taken care of several problems ourselves, going into territory we'd never dared going before. It was a little daunting at first, but we kept learning and doing . . . Now, we haven't seen our guru in, ooohhhh . . . years! Run into him at the grocery store now and then. I feel sad about that, he's a terrific guy and kept my machine going smoothly. He knew how antsy I get without it! Can't create my little worlds, and I go crazy!
Now, we're building our own PCs, and still learning stuff. This place has given us the confidence to boldly go forth, and we can't ever thank all of the staff here enough. I know this is a long post, but, I never did take the time before this to come introduce myself. Which is all right . . . gives me a chance to sing PCHelp's praises from my vast experience with them!
Being able to keep my computer going means I get to keep writing my stuff! Maybe I should mention them in my acknowledgements . . .!

These are the kinds of stories we live for...
People who can build/maintain their own PC's are not only saving themselves money, but gain confidence in their own abilities.

Re: Okay, this is Sooooo Belated . . . .!!!!
We refer everyone we know who owns a computer to the forum. It definitely builds confidence in this area! I'm still learning stuff, but I don't feel illiterate anymore! I love the fact that we can build ourselves the kind of machine we dream of for the price of parts and some time.
Yep, we are all very very very happy!!!!
