Hi, Jake, and welcome!

My sons and I have learned so much from this site that we went from computer illiterate to building our own machines within the course of about a year.

Our computer guru moved at a time when we were between phone numbers so he couldn't get hold of us. Didn't know he was gone until we needed him.

In desperation, my oldest, known hereabouts as PJ, found this site, and we haven't looked back.

By the time we located him again, we'd learned so much, we didn't need him for much of anything, except upgrades to the PCs or for a new build.

Stuff I couldn't wrap my head around back then, I can, most of the time, anyway, explain to someone else. Such a cool feeling! And if I still can't get it, well, I come back here and ask stuff until it clicks.

But the most exciting thing was finally being able to build our own computers. To upgrade without fear and paranoia we're going to mess something up royal. And to know that if a mistake is made, it's generally not the end of the world. It can be fixed with a little time and patience. Which isn't to say there aren't things that can't be fixed--that's a fact, too. And we panic, sigh, cry, vent . . . and build again!

Just can't say enough good about PChelpforum.com! They were our lifesavers at a time we'd've been down for months, probably. I'm an author of novels, Cafepress and eBay store owner, among other online ventures, and my boys are gamers. So, without our PCs, we fall apart; our hands shake and our minds go through stages of deep decline and then excited anxiety for getting those machines back up and running! Yeah, it gets bad!

You've come to the jewel of PC forums!

Hello again,

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! I've basically been floating the different forums, reading anything and everything and just trying to learn the basics to build upon. By any chance, is there a glossary of terms somewhere that I may have missed? I really liked the tutorials on building your own PC. That is something I am going to try at some point, just need to learn what works with what.

Thanks again,
Jake

Hey, you all deserve it! Couldn't say it if it weren't true!

I never dreamed we'd reach this level of competency in my lifetime, at any rate! Gotta give credit where credit is due!
