Hi all you computer wizards out there. I am a new kid on the block, a few years experience in electronics and 7 years using a computer, so you can see I am not too (computer insides) literate. I do need help most times. Retired Engineer, married to Jean and we have 3 grown up sons. Interests are:- Licensed Radio Amateur , Tennis Coach, ex RAF, musical interests and other time wasting hobbies.
We have three cats, all strays that have called in passing, Jean feeds any cat that calls plus a pair of beautiful crows, hundreds of starlings, pigeons etc., oh and the occasional woodpecker. I have two computers, this one and a new week old one that I cannot get going properly, I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO LOAD THE KEYBOARD DRIVERS FROM THE SUPPLIED SMALL DISC hence my haste to join your Forum. Hope we meet.
Thanks Hengis for the Welcome. Regards to all. Quantum.

Hi Manmonkey and Madgamer, Thanks for friendly reception. Here is my difficulty: I have bought a new 4200 Dual core AMD machine with XP loaded. The multimedia keyboard and the PS2 Mouse are not recognised by XP so my thoughts are that I should load the Multimedia Keyboard disc. So I try to do this but there are too many icons displayed for me to choose from, I do not know which ones to click. I approached the maker who advised that Win XP should pick up the keyboard and mouse without recourse to the Multimedia disc, so I looked into the hardware and found two drivers for the mouse "PS2" and "HID" the latter being a wireless mouse (which actually works). SO HOW DO I ENSURE THAT THE PS2 DRIVER IS USED RATHER THAN THE HID DRIVER ?? because I want to use the PS2 system. Hope my age isnt showing (76yrs). Any advice welcomed. Quantum

New questions Quantum, new questions, I'll transfer his thread out for him later if this is ok Upps.

HID is what your mouse may well be called (Human Interface Device which is what the mouse is), and you won't see it as "PS2 Mouse", so if it's working, then it's installed correctly. No need to mess with that! These are the default drivers that come with XP and work well. The purpose of the CD is to provide any extra functionality that the keyboard and mouse may provide, such as special "Access keys" that come with the keyboard. The disc does not normally contain a driver as such, but software to help you configure and use those extra keys. Remember to get those working, there is normally a small button located on the device that connects to the PC, one at the bottom of the mouse, and one at the back of the keyboard. These normally need to be pressed either in a certain order for these to work (check manual for sequence). If you want to use the CD (and the extra feature), then you'll need to check the model number underneath the keyboard. This model number will normally tally up with the item you need to select at the install screen.
