I am trying to replace/ upgrade the hard drive (10gb) in my old HP OmniBook XE3, with a Hitachi 80gb. I finally figured out how to get to the drive and switch it out, but I cannot load anything onto it because the cd-rom doesn't work. I tried loading WinNT with floppies, but it does not seem to work. I have no idea how to fix this issue. Should I try and find a replacement for the cd rom? I would greatly appreciate any help from any of you.

Hello Distrubed 200225, welcome to PCHF.

Finding a replacement CD-ROM is your only real option here. There are number of methods you can use when swapping out a HDD. One of them is to re-install Windows (requires a CD-ROM), and another is to use a disk cloning tool such as Acronis (again requires a CD-ROM!).

Your only remaining option, if you don't wish to replace the CD-ROM, is to keep the original 10gb HDD where it is, and use the additional 80gb as an additional Hard Drive?
