Default Hello To All ! Checking for a similar Stop Error Message

Hi Everybody! I am new here, no problems with my PC here in the USA, but my Fiancee in the Philippines is having problems with her PC. She was first having problems with it not wanting to shut down normally, so she powered it down by the power button. The next morning, she turned it on, and it started to load windows, then a Blue Screen with a Error Message appeared saying, "If this is your first time you have seen this Stop Error screen , restart your computer and if this screen appears again, follow these steps; check for viruses on your computer, check your hard drive or your hard drive controls, check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer." She is not able to do any of this as it will not show any start or desk top items to check or do any thing. She has contacted a tech over in the Philippines from a internet cafe, which has looked at it ( I am not exactly sure what he all did when checking it) & told her that she will have to completely reformatt her hard drive along with replacing the processor. I am not really sure how much he knows, or if he has given her good advice, but I told her to hold off at this time, as there are to many people every where that are not always sure (Parts Changers) so I figured I would look thru a few good forums reading on any similar problems, before taking any actions. Sounds like there are some Qualified experienced Techs here. Thanks for the registration to this forum & any experienced help would be appreciated!

First suspisions say that either the 'tech' is either not much of a tech or just wants her money, I seriously don't think its ANYTHING to do with the processor.

Sounds to me like either theres a couple of bad blocks on the drive or theres a corrupt system file which is nothing that can't be fixed.

Does she have a windows install disk or have access to one? which version of windows is on it?

Hi 1guardian, welcome to the PCHF.

It sounds like your mrs's computer Windows install has corrupted itself when she shut it down via the power button (nothing could have been done, so it was the right thing to do...it's just bad that this happened).

Now I don't know what that tech in philli's is talking about...changing the processor? Tell him to "get bent" as that is a complete waste of money and has nothing to do with the problem at hand (unless he's looked at the hardware and the fan has stopped spinning or some other thing we are not aware of)

Are you able to tell us what the stop error number is? Should be 0x000000 (replace numbers)...alpha numeric is possible

Lebowski, Thanks for the reply & your much valued time. I am inclined to agree with you. No on the widows install disk, as her first mistake was that she bought it used with no disk. As far as Version of software runningmon her PC,I have sent her a text message on her phone hoping she gets it & repllies. I am not sure, either 98 or 2000, I will let you know as soon as I find out. Thanks again!

GaRHar, Thanks For your reply & much valued time. As far as the Tech in the Philippines, I agree, it is an older PC, but it was working, & I too am inclined to agree with you that it is a software problem, ( possibly corrupted or damaged files) seeing it will not finish loading, even though it starts, I only know little of what I have self taught myself & from reading etc, others problems. Unlike you qualified experienced guys, I have little experience & knowledge in these area's. From what I am guessing she will need a Disk to reformatt her PC, which she never had. I do have a Windows XP disk OEM 2002 that the numbers have not been used yet, but I am unsure how big a hard drive & how much memory she has, until I get more info from her. I will let you all know when ever I find out. I am really impressed with such fast replies, as I was not expecting it, as I know you guys can get really involved & quite busy at times. Thanks again!

GaRHar, Sorry, I forgot to mention that she did not give me a Numerical Error Message #, I have sent her a text message on her cell hoping she sends all that I have asked for, as so many times there is a sattelite problem, & she does not always get my messages. I will reply back if she is able to reply me. Thanks again for your much valued time!
