Default Laptop boot problem

Hello to all experts out there.. I have an HP Omnibook laptop with XP that literally takes ten or more attempts to boot up. When it does boot it runs fine, but getting it to start is a pain. Any suggestions, please ??? Thanks. *e-mail address removed

Hello Phil,

Welcome to PCHF.

Please can you provide us with some more information about what exactly is happening when it doesn't boot, does it reboot itself, at what point, and is there any error messages?

Okay .. it's an Omnibook 6000 and when power switch is move to on the hard drive starts, the CD drive activates and the fan is heard running. But the usual HP logo does not come up to indicate that startup is progressing. Only when I finally get the HP logo to show will boot up continue and then all is fine. But getting to that stage takes repeated tries.

More questions Phil,

- Does the laptop normally beep when it starts up?
- Does the green LED come on when it fails to boot?
- And finally, can you hear the HDD clicking away as if it is contining to boot even though you cannot see anything on the screen?
