Default Been there, done that

Hello from Missouri,

I just found this site searching for some help and wound up hopefully helping someone else. I guess that's what it is all about.

I've worked in the comptuer field as programmer, builder, etc since the days of the first PC. Anyone heard of a SWTC 6800 computer kit or the KC baud standard? I've recently been a little burned out because of the constant changes in the programming languages. I can actually do less today than I could 10 years ago! I was a hard core C programmer in the days of Karnahan and Riche but have not been able to keep up with all the VC++ enhancements. I miss the days when one wrote all of their own libraries and built programs from the ground up. I have written application menu systems, ISAM file systems, editors, and more just to be obsoleted by a new language. Today, if you want to program, you almost have to understand a lot about Microsofts complex code just to get started. Then you have to study like crazy just to keep up. Anyone agree, disagree?

Howdy mac,

Glad you found yourself here.. So far the people have been nothing but nice.. You do not see that on most pc help sites..

I agree and disagree though.. Like last year I had to take a refresher course taking CIS and 2 etc. I luahged a little as seeing pc's have just now (this year) came along way..Yes the old language is all but dead but thats why there is Linux

I think the core of everythig was going at crawling speeds for a bit. Now things will start to get harder to stay up on.
Vista drove up C prices again, (even for us home builders) but hopefully things will go back to a crawl for my brains sake gettin to old as well to keep going back to school here and there..

Default You are right

Nice to get a response.

Yea, I guess I just felt like complaining.
I think you may be right about Linix. I should try it. I used to be big on Unix until I got interested in microsoft. Do they still have the vi editor? How about grep and awk? I loved those global commands for changing code. We used curses as our screen positioning software. I wouldn't mind seeing that improved.

Those were the days my friend.
