Cool Icon text highlited

Hi and good evening to everyone out there. I'm 73 y/o and have used PCs before but you'd never know it by the simple things that stump me from time to time. It's nice to know that there is support or us old beginners. Latest goof must have been hitting the wrong key or group of keys and getting all of my icons on opening XP screen show up with highlighting (shadows?) of text/description of the icon -- even after rebooting. Was fine before I started working on a project a short time ago. I'm sure there's a simple answer but I haven't found it yet. Help?
