Hello all,
My name is Mike and I'm a computer addict. I love building them, tinkering with them, benchmarking and testing them, and just generally playing with them. I've dabbled in lots of different OS's, from DOS to Windows, Unix, and various flavors of Linux. I've got a desktop running WinXP Pro, a server running Fed Core 3, and two laptops running WinXP Pro. I'm running an ethernet and wireless lan off a D-Link DGL-4300 (love it) and have the standard 512k cable internet.
My WinXP box has a Abit AS8 with a Pentium 540, 2gb Corsair Value Select, a 6800Gt, Audigy 2ZX, two SATA 36gb Raptors in RAID 0 and an additional 80gb Maxtor drive, a cd burner and a double-layer DVD burner. Also I chucked an Aver TV tuner card and a wirelesss PCI card in this box.
I built this machine in October 2004 and I must say that it's held up quite well since then. I do a fair mix of gaming, photoshop, and I like playing with digital audio (Cakewalk, Magix) and video editing (Sonic Foundry). All of this is displayed beautifully on my NEC 19" LCD (1935NXM) and heard through a set of Logitech 2.1 speakers / Plantronics headset. I'm also in love with my Saitek Gamer keyboard (I wish I'd waited for the Eclipse but I didn't know it was coming out when I went keyboard shopping) and my Logitech MX1000 mouse with the "frikken LASER beam". Dude.
Firefox is my browser of choice, I play a mix of WoW and Battlefield (hate the new one though) and I love strategy games and simulators (FS2004 is very good) and I've got about 80gb of music on my Linux box and I love watching DVD's on the Windows box. One of the laptops is a Gateway Athlon 64 3200 (which currently needs more
ram, only has 512) and the other is Dell Inspiron 1100 with a 2ghz P4 (an oldie but a goodie).
And now a little about me. I'm 30 and I've recently honorably separated from the US Navy after 10 years of service, as an E-6. I'm moving from San Diego to the Bay Area (San Jose) because I've just started a job ad Lam Research in Fremont as a Field Service Engineer. My g/f of five years is moving with me and we just secured a lease on a house with a detatched, 500sq ft office space, which means I'll have plenty of room to pursue my hobbies (computers and RC flight). Woot! Oh yeah, one other piece of equipment that I find most useful is my Danby Keg Fridge. Gotta have cold beer on tap.
So that's me. I hope everyone here has a happy holiday season, and thanks for letting me blather on about my stuff and myself. Cheers!
-Mike
