Question Do I need a new modem?

Just got a new computer, acer aspire, which has a 64 bit operating system.
My old modem is a Thomson speedtouch 330, plugs into a usb port, which came with my Tesco adsl broadband.
My problem is that when I put in the disc that came with my modem it says "cd not designed to run on XP 64 bit".
My Isp is telling me I need to buy a wireless router?
When I look at "all programs" I have two icons for internet explorer, one with noting extra next to it but the other says (64-bit).
Should I tell my Isp to get stuffed, my contract is now past the 12 month period, go elsewhere and get a new contract with a shiny new modem that works....
or is there some easier solution i'm missing.
I have got in contact with modem people who have quoted me a load of gobblydeegook, which I can't understand but am unable to cut & paste here due to some confidential thingy.
Please scuse the lenght tried to give as much info as poss.
Thanks Yellowbelly

There are very few routers with USB, *I think*. I've done a quick search and I'm not seeing many.

There's nothing wrong with your ISP, but request that they take the original modem back and replace it with something not USB attached.

A router IS still a good purchase however. It provides a level of security against the Internet by placing a hardware firewall between you and the Internet. They are relatively inexpensive.

Exclamation Re: Do I need a new modem?

Boy oh boy am I feeling smug...I'm now on my new computer. Problem solved (I think)
What I did was to download a new driver from the Thomson website onto a pen drive, I then transfered this to my new computer and set up my internet account. The idea was kind of suggested as I asked a few questions trying to find a new ISP.
But I'm now so happy. Would anyone out there have come up with this solution?
