Default Stupid Xbox 360 Error!!!

Okay so for about the past month or so I can't connect to Xbox Live on my Xbox 360.

This is since the update which I believe was sometime in November, maybe even October.

Once I turn the Xbox on it says there is an update available (so presumably it can connect to the internet to find out that much) but when I go to download the update it starts and then says 'could not update...please contact Xbox Support'.

Needless to say Xbox support is a joke.

Now in the Connection Test everything passes except for the 'Xbox Live' test which fails. IP, DNS and all that other stuff are all confirmed and I have double checked these in my router's DHCP table.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have tried "power cycling" devices and both automatic and manual configurations. Nothing works!

I did read that this is something to do with Xbox servers and usually resolves in 24 hours...its been almost three of four weeks now since the problem began.

Help please!

If you have not already forwarded ports for your xbox through your router then that may be your problem.

The following ports must be available to your Xbox 360 console for Xbox LIVE to operate correctly:
  • TCP 80
  • UDP 88
  • UDP 3074
  • TCP 3074
  • UDP 53
  • TCP 53

But I have the Xbox 360 set to DMZ...or do I still have to forward those ports?

When it was working before I didn't have those ports forwarded. I was getting kicked out of games but I was still managing to connect to Xbox Live.

always worth a try, is your router a Xbox LIVE-certified router? if not what is your NAT status? if it is moderate or strict you will need to forward ports. Give it a go let me know how it works.

You can check to see if your router is compatable here

It's a D-Link but its not listed there. I have had it working before though.

Because Xbox Live fails it doesn't test the Router but when it was working it was diagnosed as Open and working fine.

Okay its working now...but on the other/OLD router!

This is not what I bought a new router for...so I can use it to stand my old one on.

At least its working but I want to use the new one...it has better configuration options like Static IP assigned by MAC address and things

I think my router is a little bit too hard for Xbox Live...but it does have a lot more firewall features in it which I don't think a BT Voyager 2091 does. The BT Voyager only has a USB port and one ethernet port. My D-Link has 4 ethernet ports

Stupid Xbox Live. I'll have to go vent my frustration on COD4
