I have followed this and saved the network set up to a usb stick and run it on one of the laptops (didn't recognise it on the mac) and it is still not able to connect to the wireless. It does seem to be recognising there is a wireless connection to connect to. Any more ideas?

Next step on the notebook (we'll leave the Mac 'til later) ensure the wireless ability is switched on, this maybe a switch on the computer or a function key combination.
In general if switched on there will be another light on the laptop by an "aerial mast". On the laptop - back to the Control Panel - Network Setup Wizard - Share a connection.

I followed that however i do not have a usb port on the router which means i cannot complete the setup. Is there a way to do it without having to put the usb drive into the router?

I just followed the on screen instructions. It asked me to use a flash drive and it saved something onto it and then asked me to plug it into the router and then into each of the devices that would need the connection. Did i do the wrong thing?
The router is a Belkin N Wireless Router. Currently the security, wireless, wired and router lights are lit. Modem and Internet are not lit. |

I'm sorry I don't have the expertise to talk you through getting it working in its present configuration.
Others in the forum are more gifted amd may jump in. I'd suggest the easy way is to buy an ADSL Wireless Modem Router (approx £40.00) or an ADSL modem with ethernet connection (e.g. BT Voyager 210, less than £10.00 on ebay.)
