Hi there,
I purchased a new laptop the other day, the first day i could watch videos on youtube no problem, streaming was very fast. But after a couple of days, videos seem to take ages to stream even if its 30secs or a minute long. They start, stop, buffer, start, stop etc. I'm having to just pause it till its finished downloading the whole clip and then watch it. But i'm just curious if theres a problem as it was fine the first day. I did set up my broadband wireless security after the first day, and have done a couple of windows updates since then, but don't see why that would be the cause. From looking at my network connections it is showing 11Mbps.
The Spec of my laptop is:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz
Ram: 1MB
Cache memory: L2 Cache
Storage: 160GB
Video Memory: 358MB, Dynamic Video Memory Technology 4.0
Video Output: Intel GMA X3100
Could anyone shed some light on this?
Cheers.

Hi there,
What browser are you using? Did you try another browser to see if the problem persisted?

Browser could be an issue, although, I found that severe packet loss through my phone line on a dsl connection really slowed streaming down. Contact your ISP and see if they are currently performing maintenance anywhere where you may be receiving your conenction from or if any other customers have been experiencing similar problems. Be tough lol, ISP's are generally a pushover.

Thanks for your replies.
I am using Internet Explorer, not tried another browser but i will do. I was at my girlfriends over the weekend and connected to her broadband via wireless on my laptop and her connection is showing 54mbps, and she also has a linksys router. Streaming was very fast, no problem. So do you think there is a problem with connection in my area? You don't think there will be something restricting the connection i.e router?? The connection i have is 10MB broadband with Virgin Media. |

The router i have is a linksys BEFW11S4, i've checked the spec on this, it says standard ports operate at 100mbps while 802.11b wireless operates at 11mbps. So thats why i'm not getting full potential!! Therefore if i use ethernet instead of wireless i should get more than 11mbps right? Or do you recommend me purchasing another router that will support wireless up to 54mbps i.e linksys WRTG54 or something? If it is best to purchase another router what do i need to be aware of in terms of the settings when setting up a new router. Will i need to inform my ISP? I have my xbox360 hooked up too via ethernet at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated. |
