I'm looking for a place to make a forum.

I'm looking for one that is gonna be at least fairly customizable, no ads, no member limit and such but, if possible, still fairly cheap.

I tried phpbb3 and its ok but I its slow, not as customizable as I would like and the control panel is a little confusing.

Any suggestions would be cool and remember the cheaper the better but I'll take any suggestions.

PJ

They look pretty cool. Do they allow you to put up your own graphic at the top of the board?

Everything is customizable on an SMF forum installation.

ok I have my host and domain and everything. I've uploaded the files with an FTP program and am now trying to install it on the site but its saying something about.

"Some files need to be writable for SMF to work properly. This step allows you to let the installer make them writable for you. However, in some cases it won't work - in that case, please make the following files 777 (writable, 755 on some hosts):
  • attachments
  • avatars
  • Packages
  • Packages/installed.list
  • Smileys
  • Themes
  • agreement.txt
  • Settings.php
  • Settings_bak.php"
And it asks for my FTP information and I put that in and hit connect and it says. .

"Unable to connect to FTP server with this combination of details."

You could try just using chmod via FTP yourself for them files. To do it right click on each file/folder and then click Properties/CHMOD (or similar depending on ftp client) and change the number to 777.
