Re: TCI / IP Manual / Auto
Hey cyberdine,
Using manual settings is fine. DHCP is just designed to take that manual process away, and the requirement of recording each PC's IP address on a network has obvious advantages, but like you said, it doesn't really make any difference in terms of connectivity or security. If anything, there is no longer a need to aquire your DHCP address when your PC starts.
As for your network settings, we'll go through these step by step. Can you first take a look in Control Panel, Network Connections, can you tell me what is listed here?

Thanks Madmonkey, as I'd thought - and hoped.

OK, within the local properties of your wireless adapter, what items do you have listed here?

Re: TCI / IP Manual / Auto
Great stuff. Inside the properties of Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), can you confirm/set the following:
- Click Advanced
- IP settings tab
. . IP Address should be DHCP Enabled
. . No gateway addresses
. . Automatic metric is ticked
- DNS tab
. . "DNS Server Addresses" should be empty. - I noticed in your ipconfig, that 195.74.113.58 was listed and should not be there and could well be the cause your problems.
. . "Register this connection address.." is ticked
. . "Use this connections DNS suffix.." is unticked
- WINS tab
. . "WINS Addresses" should be empty.
. . "NetBIOS" should be set to default.
With these settings, if your still unable to connect, can you do me another ipconfig?

Re: TCI / IP Manual / Auto
Ok, here are my current settings - which give be the ability to connect.
( I thought this was easier than writing them all down)

Note: I cannot see anywhere in TCP/IP settings that DHCP is enabled as in your post above
- IP settings tab
. . IP Address should be DHCP Enabled
|
However, it IS enabled in 'services.msc' (started / automatic).
I'll now change the settings to what you've stated above and let you know the result.
Be right back.
Thanks

No that's cool, it should appear as soon as you switch back to DHCP. Those DNS entries should not be there, so you should be hopefully able to use DHCP normally after removing them.

Re: TCI / IP Manual / Auto
Ok, with the settings mentioned in your earlier post, I could not connect to the Internet, although I could connect to the router.
Note; I also tried leaving the DNS server addresses in and removed the Default Gateway address. This resulted in the same, no internet but router connection was ok.
Ipconfig /all results with your settings:
Code:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : LAPTOP
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
Ethernet adapter Wireless:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network
Connection
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-13-CE-54-B7-8D
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Also, I checked again; whilst the above states that DHCP is NOT enabled, 'services.msc' states that it is enabled.
Thanks

Re: TCI / IP Manual / Auto
Hey cyberdine, there's still a manual address in there. From the inital Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties, can you set "Obtain an IP address automatically" and then "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Reboot your PC and then do another ipconfig if that doesn't work?
