Default Can not get PC to connect wireless but PDA works
I have been trying to connect wireslessly using my PC, my PDA connects fine to the wireless internet and then when I open i.e. it opens a page that I need to enter a code in (or click to agree to their terms when free in airports). However on my Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop it says connected but when I click on i.e. it does not automatcially load up the i.e. page where I need to enter the code in. I suspect that i have an incorrect setting somewhere. Very frustrating...

Also I have taken it to an internet cafe and plugged in the ethernet cable, this does not work either as the i.e. log in screen does not open so I suspect i have some setting elshere that i need to alter??

Any ideas, I have moved to Oz and need to get e-mails ASAP.

Hello Shaun and welcome to PC Help Forum.

I think you may need to enter your user name or email adress.

The password could be your wep key wich is usaly asigned by your internat service providor or the person who setup your wireless router if you are using one.

Wep key is a passowrd.Usaly of a mix of numbers and letters or just numbers etc.

Hi Shaun, Stu here, got you email via your old man. Hope OZ is treating you well, even though you have only been there are week, your requesting help from blightly already

anyway, back to the matter at hand. So you can connect with your PDA so you know what should happen when your laptop connects, but your not being prompted with the varification screen to connect to the airport/internet cafe network. You also mention that if you connect your laptop to the intetweb cafe wired network, it still wont load up the varification page. First question, your laptop doesnt have a static IP address? if so, set to dynamic (if unsure how to do this, let me know). Second, can you check that IE is set to automatically detect proxy settings. Also, if possible, have you started your new job yet? if so, and you're allowed to, take you laptop and connect to your work LAN to see if it connects (hopefully it should do).

Try these and get back to me.
