9 months ago, the 18 month contract came with a good discount, im a sucker for a good discount. Now they got me by the balls.

I just called them, and because I couldnt answer every single question, they said they can't discuss it with me. I gave them my name, address, D.O.B, my bank details, the amount on my last bill... but I didnt have my account number.... wtf?

I would try again Scotty-CFC and if you cant find your Acc NO it will be on your on line bill, and try this NO > 0800 7318578 "its BTs Broadband help line but they can put you through to Accounts free ".

I have gained an improvement by playing about with my router.

- I have disabled any wireless connections (as there was an unknown wireless connection)
- I have disabled the firewall
- I have added IE7 & various other programs to the applications to allow ports to be opened.

Its still not like AOL used to be at peak times (im now getting about 100 - 150KBps), but off peak, I am getting satisfactory download speeds of 500 - 600KBps.

...its still ****.

Hi Scotty my neice has had AOL and she had same problems. They even blocked her from using a wireless router unless you pay them more cash for there router and the privalage of using it.
No she could not cancel her contract after say the 28 day grace period.

She just stopped her direct debit and refuses to pay the 18 month contract. They advertise UP TO not exact speed and BT is just as bad.

They are actualy not in breach of contract due to the agreement UP TO.

However if your speed is such a low standard then contact trading standards as we are supposed to get a decent speed and yours is substandard.

Trading Standards is the way to get out of the contract.

Try Virginmedia?

There 4 meg BB is due to be free upgraded to 10 meg and there 10 meg is due to be upgraded free to 20 meg.

At least Virginmedia do not stop you installing a wireless router of your choice and do not block it like AOL and BT.

D-Link wirless router works perfectly well with Virginmedia modem,I am on 4 meg at the moment waiting for my free upgrade to 10 meg.
My speed is usaly 3.947 meg and stays pritty constant at that level. So I am getting pritty much what I am paying for.
