Smile [Resolved] Unblocking my own web page.

I have an html page that I keep all of my personal links on. It is not on any server. the path is D:\My Documents\MyHomeSite\index.htm so it is not preceded by Free PC Help : PC Help Forum.com

This page is set as my home page because I use the links a lot and may even extend it to become a website with a menu bar and main page instead of just one page.

So I have two questions.

1. as it stands at the moment, every time I open my page I have to unblock it. I am unable to allow the page in the Popup Blocker settings because it doesn't have the preceding http stuff. How can I get it to allow access without having to unblock it all the time.

2. I would like to extend my page into a site but I want it to remain on my PC. How do I do this. Do I need to turn my PC into a server? I have FrontPage installed and will probably use it as my site builder. I am using Notepad at the moment.

Many thanks

Hi lucianp,

I presume you mean the local content filter in IE? Where it pops up with the yellow bar?

Re: 2: you could host the page on a free web host (good enough for one page) and then just use that as your home page.

Yes, the message is "to help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer."

I don't want to do that because I have secure links to finances, banks etc plus it's easy to just edit Notepad and save it than to ftp to a host that probably isn't secure.

I read somewhere about IIS ?? I think that is an option but don't know much about it.

So your thinking of installing a web server on your PC? This can be done with IIS, but also I believe Firefox does not ask you to click that bar if you don't mind using Firefox.

I don't want to install a lot of extraneous stuff on my PC, so I will not load Firefox. I already use IE7 which I like.

I'm not going to upgrade to Windows 8. I have XP Pro which is good enough for me.

I have installed IIS from my installation cd, but now I'm stumped because I don't know where to go from here.

I guess I will have to do some googling to find out how to set it all up.

Thanks guys.
