Smile [Answered] Pulling out hair over packet loss ! !

Hey guys, it's been a while from my last visit. Hope you are all keeping well. Anyway, I'm desperate for some advice, so here goes;

For the past month I've been experiencing severe packet loss issues with my connection, which is a 2 meg dsl connection with AOL (satans spawn). Phonecalls and phonecalls to their tech support centre have got me nowhere, they tell me different things every time I call, from server problems at their end to vendor problems my end. Anyway, at any one time my packet loss can be between 50 and 94% which basically makes the net completely useless. It never (ever ever) drops below 50%. Downlaod and uplaod speeds are not affected at all, which makes me rule out a problem with my telephone line, which I have had tested, its fine. Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated, because I'll very soon be bald if this issue is not corrected ! !

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

AOL services are very poor my neice was paying for 2 meg but would be lucky if she got half a meg.She changed BB services to BT.(virginmedia are just as bad).

Let me look to see if I can find a fix?

I just read this about your modem While still available through some Internet Service providers the BT Voyager USB modem range has now been withdrawn from sale

This is dialup?And usb connection?They are normaly very slow connection with these types.

Ok try this:Go to Start - All Programs - BT Voyager ADSL Modem - Configure.

driver update http://www.voyager.bt.com/selfhelp/shc/drivers.htm

Click on Diagnostics.

You will then be asked to login, please enter your Broadband username and password. This is for diagnostics purposes and is not a connection to the Internet.

This screen should very quickly flash up then close again.

Your default web browser, usually Internet Explorer will display the following screen although some of the information will be different.

The above results give you an idea of where your connection is having problems. The areas being Interface, System, Line and Network.
  • The Interface test checks for problems with the connection between the Voyager Modem and the PC
  • The System test checks for problems with the Voyager Modem itself.
  • The Line test checks for problems with the Broadband line
  • Lastly the Network test checks for problems with the Internet connection
