Smile [Resolved]Wireless connection (no ethernet port)

Hello all,

I have purchased a new HP pavillion cpu. Reason for this was that my old one did not have an ethernet port on the back. I would now like to connect my old PC to the net wireless.

What to do I need to buy? anyone as I really don't know. I have a wireless router.

Thank you.....

ok if your new pc is set as main computer and wireless router is connected to the modem and main pc.Then you will need to buy either a wirelss card for old computer or cheaper idea is to buy a USB wireless adaptor. These adaptors can be plugged into the USB port then you install the software that came with the USB wireless adpator on the same old pc.

Then you go to network connections and connect to main router using wireless router user name/password.

If you need more information I can get you a few links.

Hi, if your old laptop has a PC card slot in the side you can fit one of these> WG511T - NETGEAR.com , or if not you can use a USB adapter like this one> WG111T - NETGEAR.com
There both easy to install and use and Netgear are probably the most reliable companies, i have the USB one and i`ve had it for about 4 years and it still works fine. Installation is simply a case of running the supplied disc then plugging in the adapter, it will find your wireless network, then input your security key and off you go

D

Edit: Sorry JB, you must have posted while i was typing lol

So all I need is a wireless Usb adapter?

My old PC is running windows ME.

Basically it's as simple as buying a wireless adapter, installing it and connecting to my wireless router?

My new PC has a wireless router but it is connected with cables.

Sounds good so far....

Yor main pc new one has to be connected by wires to router and wirelss router then all other computers are either connected to wireless via cable or wirless adaptors.
You need to install wireless router first and setup sharing.

You will need to buy a USB wireless adaptor wich is compatable with ME.The drives you install must be for ME.

Like this one on link? They come in diffrent speeds, the faster speed the more they go up in price.D-Link United Kingdom

This one supports ME.WPN111 Support Page

Cheaper option is to buy an internal PCI eithernet card if there is a spare slot inside the PC.No wires just pushes in a free slot, reboot and install drives from floppy disk supplied with PCI card.
