Default [Answered] Inet trouble- keep getting DC

I have a DSL connection that is connected from the socket straight to a Linksys WAG200G wireless ADSL router via a normal phone cable. And from the router, connected to the computer via ethernet cable. I think my hardware driver is: Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

I keep getting disconnected for a whole minute every once in a while. Sometimes i get disconnected every 10 minutes. Sometimes every hour. I have contacted my ISP a number of times and they checked the phone line and said there is nothing wrong with it. They say it might be a problem with my computer or router.

here are my router settings as provided by my ISP: .: Batelco :.

VPI value: 8 VCI value: 35 Encapsulation: Routed PPPoA only (PPPoE is not supported) Multiplexing method: VC or VC-MUX (LC or LLC is not supported)
They told me thats all the information i would need and that everything else should be automatic. Anyway, nobody can seem to find the solution to this problem. Please help.

Thanks!

Hey Loadz,

Can you access your router page when your actually experiencing these problems? Do you have filters on *all* of your telephone points in your home?

When you mean *all* telephone points, do you mean even the sockets without telephones connected to them?

Yes i do have filters connected to all sockets that have phones on them. And yes i can log into the setup page when these problems occur.

That's fine. OK, here is what we know.

- Your telephone company has ruled out external line problems.
- It's not interfearence from another phone connected in the house.
- It's not a PC problem, network card, or ethernet cable since you can connect to your router page.

This leaves, either the telephone cable running from the router to the wall socket, or the router itself. I'm personally betting on the router, I've seen a lot of these problems recently.

The thing is, i used to have a D-link router that had the same problem and so i bought the Linksys router as a replacement. Still with the same problem. But my telephone company did recommend that i get a U.S robotics router. They say it works best with the type of connection they provide. I don't understand why but anyway, what type of router would you recommend i buy?

Not using the same telephone cable Loadz?

It's always a good idea to go with routers that are recommended by your ISP. At home, my ISP told me the same thing. I had a BT Voyager router, which they supplied me in the first place!

A router I have never had problems with no matter what ISP, is NetGear. An absolutely fantastic router whilst remaining relatively cheap, and has a lot to offer in terms of functionality.
