Sorry I must have misundestood. Install IE7 then do this to reset the defaults I think a seting must have changed

1.Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.2.On the Advanced tab, click Reset.3.In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset. 4.When Internet Explorer 7 finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK two times. 5.Close Internet Explorer 7. The changes take effect the next time that you open Internet Explorer 7.

Thanks for the update. It's ok. My post had a lot of detail in it. It was hard to convey 2 weeks worth of effort in a meaningful manner. I have done the resets a number of times, but I'm willing to try anything.

I reset everything again and restarted IE. When I ran the Browserhawk test again, I had to enable displaying mixed content and install an Adobe ActiveX add-on. I'm attaching the report I produced. It's still showing SSLKeySize as 56. I don't know much about this kind of testing, and I guess it's possible that the test is wrong, but I still have the problem updating in Quicken with my bank, so I believe I still have a problem.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Hengis,

I have done some of the steps listed here, but not all. I'll get to work on it.

Hello All,

Guess what? I'm fixed!!!!! The one thing I did not do previously was roll back to a previous restore point. Guess I'm old fashioned, but I've never gotten used to using them. I create them every time I make a change, run an update or whatever, but I never roll back. The check list you suggested, had that as one of the to-do's, and nothing else on the list worked so when I got to that point, I reluctantly rolled back.

Imagine my shock when I realized looking at my list of possible restores that the very day my problems started, I had installed an upgrade to Microsoft Streets and Trips, going from 2006 to 2008. Fortunately, I did create a restore point before I started. Bingo, encryption is working correctly and my Quicken updates perfectly. Isn't it ironic that Microsoft's software is what "broke" IE, not some 3rd party vendor's software.

Anyway, I was about to give up on a fix, and I probably wouldn't have gone through the checklist if I didn't feel obligated to you since you were kind enough to help me. Thanks so much for your help.
