Default latop causing network problems

Hi,
I have been running an internet connection through a router for a while.
This week I hooked a new laptop up to the router (wired connection). Whenever I use the laptop it causes the internet connection on one of the desktop pcs to break down and I have to use system restore to get it working again. It only happens to one in particular. The laptop is running vista and the desktop has xp.
I realise this is a little rambly and I'm happy to clarify if neccesary.
Thanks.

Hello mus, welcome to PCHF.

How many PC's do you have in total?

Can you do the following for me, before and after this problem occurs and paste the results back here.

- Go to Start, Run, and type in cmd
- From the command window, type in ipconfig
- Right click on the titlebar, and click in Edit followed by Select All.
- Right click again, and click on Edit and Copy.

You'll initially be able to paste it back here, but when it stops working, paste it into a document and save it to a disk. Open the document up on another PC and paste the contents here.

I'm suspecting that the results will be different.

thanks very much for your reply but I now have a new problem!
I can no longer carry out a system restore so I can't get the info you asked for.
Do you fancy having a stab in the dark anyway?
To answer your question, I have 3 computers in total on the network.
Thanks a lot.

Hi mus, thanks for that. Altough, you should still be able to get an ipconfig from that PC, it's only the internet that's not working right?

yeah that's correct but I can't get one from before it stops working because system restore is the only way I can get the internet to work again.
I'm gonna reinstall windows tonight so hopefully I'll be able to give you what you need tomorrow (I expect I will still have the same problems).
Thanks a lot.

ok, here's the before.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

I'll get the after version up here as soon as it breaks down on me.

Hi Mus, It's showing that the network cable is disconnected there, is that correct? Any chance you could get the ipconfig's of the other PC's too, including the new laptop after you plug and after you re-install of the OS of the problematic PC? Also, judging by this configuration you have above, do you have two routers on your network? - Only it's unusal for a router IP to be 192.168.1.2.
