Heya Jones

Welcome to PCHF
You would share a broadband (DSL / Cable) internet connection the same way whether it is wireless or wired.
You will need a router to set up a network. I prefer Netgear or Linksys for brands. You will be best off getting a wireless router. Even though both will be hooked up to the router with cables for the moment, you may eventually want to use wireless on your laptop or add another wireless computer to your network. A wireless router still has ports to connect ethernet cables to.
Basically the setup will be your cable/phone outlet from the wall connects to the cable/DSL modem. The modem connects to the routers internet (WAN) port via an ethernet cable. Then the computers each connect to the router via an ethernet cable or wireless connection.
When you get the router, just refer to the manual to set up the router. If the generic set up doesn't work, contact your internet service provider to see if they will help you through the settings (they may or may not).
If you do eventually set up a wireless network, be sure to consult the manual on how to configure the security that is built in to the router to prevent people from stealing your internet connection and getting into your computers.
Hope that helps!
