Red face Problems downloading files

I'm using Firefox 2,but thats irrelevant because it does the same thing with Explorer.

Everything works just fine, except for the fact that when I click on a link to download something (mainly RAR files) the browser just sits there with a white screen and supposedly "waiting for www.whatever.com". I have a high speed connection so this shouldn't happen. I have tried downloading different files from multiple websites and it always does the same thing. It sits there in limbo instead of the "do you want to save this file" screen coming up.

This might have been answered multiple times, and it's probably a simple problem, but could someone fill me in?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Can you open your task manager and watch the processes vs CPU usage when you click download. Is there anything "jumping in" and soaking up the CPU when you do that?

No, the CPU usage goes up a few percent when its loading the page, but instead of the "would you like to save this file" screen appearing, firefox hangs and the CPU usage just goes to zero.

Also, Firefox hangs from time to time, restarting it fixes the problem, I don't know if its related.

Just Firefox? Ok, it's time for you to uninstall Firefox, then delete the Mozilla Firefox folder on your C drive. Then re-boot and re-install Firefox.

Already done that plus it does the same thing with explorer. I bet it has something to do with windows or some extenxion setting. Is there anybody who has had this problem?
