Question [Pending] Trouble with my speedtouch wireless router :@

I recently recieved a speedtouch 576 wireless router from pipex broadband when i signed up, i followed all the instructions on the installatin disc word for word. The problem is i can only connect when i have the ethernet cable plugged in and i would like to be wireless as i have a pc (windows xp) and laptop (windows vista) that are both wireless enabled. When i try to search for the router on my pc or laptop it shows up so i click connect and enter the wep key/passphrase registered through the installation steps on the disc it eventually says successful and says im connected but then when i open internet explorer or mozilla firefox no pages will load and i cannot use msn or any other internet based program, I have tried resetting the router and the laptop and pc but it does nothing and i still cannot get online

please anyone with ideas would be much appreciated

Hi there and welcome to PCHF, i would like you to go into Internet Explorer and click on Tools, then Internet Options, on the Coonections Tab click LAN Settings, and make sure Automatically Detect Settings box is checked.

Next go into Firefox click on Tools then Options and click on Advanced and then the Network Tab. Then under the "Connections" box click on Settings. Make sure the "Direct Connection to the Internet is select, and ok your way out. Restart both browsers by closing and re opening them.

To update the firmware on your router follow these steps:

Open Internet Explorer
type in the address field http://192.168.1.1 and press enter
Logon to the router with your username and password
There should be a section called Upgrade or something similar
Browse for the .bin file and click Upgrade
