Hi Schpew,

I'm showing a couple of problems here. The first are bad graphics drivers, and the second appear to be faulty RAM.

There is a test you can perform to see if your memory is faulty:

- If you have a floppy drive and a spare floppy disk, please download: http://www.memtest86.com/memt32.zip

- If not, please download, unzip and use nero to burn this image: http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.2.iso.zip

Reboot with the CD/Floppy in the drive and start memtest. This will ensure there are no problems in memory.

After resolving your memory issues, you'll need to download the latest driver for your graphics card which can be obtained from here: SiS SiS300/SiS305 Graphics Driver v1.15 Windows 2000/XP Download

Hi again,

I ran memtest for many hours and it found one error. Here are the details:

Tst: 5
Pass: 5
Failing Address: 0000001bd50 - 0.6MB
Good: ffffffff
Bad: ffdfffff
Err-Bits: 00200000
Count: 1
Chan:

After the test I may have done something stupid...
There are two slots of RAM in the PC. One is filled with 256MB, the other with 128MB. I had added the 128 years ago, so I decided to remove it and see if the pc would run smoothly. But it didn't. Then I replaced the 256MB with the 128MB stick and it still was rebooting.

Now with both sticks back to where the were the pc keeps rebooting and doesn't even make it the desktop graphic... it just keeps rebooting at different times before the desktop appears.

Should I buy new RAM? Is RAM the problem? Could it be a motherboard issue?
It's a pretty old pc, I'd like to get access to the desktop again.

When it reboots do you get any error message or BSOD?

There are a number of things you can try. Using one stick at a time, try them in different slots. Also, try running memtest with a single stick at a time to identify which stick it bad.

The automatic restart on system failure was not disabled.
Anyhow I just disabled it and here are the blue screen errors that I received on the last 3 restarts:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The windows Subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000001d (0x75ea0bb6 0x0052ef40)

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC000001D, 0xE1A15139, 0xF2CB4B68, 0x00000000)

I tried using one stick at a time and still had the same problems... I'll try them in different slots and then run memtest with a single stick.

Could I purchase new RAM and then return it to the store if it doesn't help?
