Default Slow downloads on p2p programmes

Hi all,

I've been having a few problems with my p2p programmes in general, not really getting very good download speeds. I'm sure this is a bit of a tricky topic, as techinically p2p file sharing is not illegal, just what you share. So let's assume i'm sharing legally and for now I won't name the software.

(What appears to be) Randomly i've been unable to download at any high speeds and more than often not at all. I have an 'up to 8mb' broadband connection which is currently running at around 3.7-3.8mb. My ISP is talktalk. I use bittorrent and another file sharing programme to download most of my stuff, and for some reason they're not longer running at full speed. Most of the time, they just don't get started, or every now and again the speed might go to 0.1kb/s and then go back to 0. There's nothing wrong with the health of the files I'm downloading and would normally have downloaded within about 20 minutes 2 weeks ago. I have a USB modem connected directly to the computer and no router.

I'd be grateful for any support as i'm VERY frustrated, but appreciate that it's an iffy topic, and perhaps not even in the right section. Thanks.

I've tried that, doesn't have an affect. As I said, it's not just the bittorrent client, it's also another p2p programme I use. Both have pretty much stopped working. Please, if you need any further information, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks.

You are correct, it's a very thin line. Torrent in and of itself is not illegal; however, I'm a bit curious by the 'let's assume I'm sharing legally' part......that implies that we NEED to assume so......

As for the d/l speeds, I can't help you there. That would be something most likely to take up with the ISP. What I can help out with is disinfecting your pc should you become infected; those torrent sites are rife with infection, and you need be extremely careful when visiting them.

thanks,

v

I appreciate that, maybe I should have rephrased. I don't use them for illegal downloads. As for virus/spyware etc, I'm pretty well covered there, I've been able to look after my computer so far (let's hope that the problem isn't a virus then!). I'm usually quite careful with that stuff. What exactly do I take up with my ISP though? What do i ask them? Are they limiting my download speeds? Cos my bandwidth is the same, i've done various tests online and also, I can download things fine from websites. It just seems to be this situation. Any further help would be great, thanks.

Hi vivkjadav, unfortuantely it's against PCHF rules to help with any P2P software.

Sorry we can't help you out.
